confidence is key.

once upon a time there was a young girl named hailey. she was a (slightly) shy and naive thing and had a difficult time staying true to herself. one day she decided she didn't give a flying fruit cake anymore and went off the deep end...the end.

okay so that story is completely made up  (maybe) and a hundred percent not true (kinda). but when I was younger, I really didn't have much self-confidence and my self-esteem really suffered. It wasn't probably until I came up to the Burg last fall; that I finally started to feel more at ease with who I was and really express myself in my truest form. so here on the blog I'm going to share some tips and tricks that have kept me confident and cool. (okay I'm not really cool at all)

first) you have to remember that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is going through trials and struggles in their lives. We have all become masters at putting on a brave face and pretending as though we're absolutely fine and dandy. THIS IS A LIE. We're all dealing with crap and heartache, and just because we haven't tweeted about it or posted a pic about it on Insta, doesn't mean it isn't real.

second) now that you know the above, here comes tip number two. It is absolutely okay for you not to be flawless. but this doesn't just mean appearances; this includes knowledge, personality, social skills, dependency... the list goes on forever. There isn't one person in all of the world who is wholly immaculate all of the days. If we were completely perfect then we wouldn't be able to improve or learn anything! So embrace yourself, your flaws, your imperfections, and your shortcomings. Embrace ALL of it.

third) I know this one is probably obvious but it is by far the hardest to master. Don't care about what people think about you. YOU are your own person, and their thoughts and opinions shouldn't dictate how you act or view yourself. Don't give a flying fruit cake and be you, no matter who you're around.

*sorry this post sounded like an article out of a self-help magazine, but I needed to write it to motivate me for this upcoming semester*

  4. I struggled with this for a long time throughout high school and college until my Junior year. My last two years of college were the best because I didn't give a "flying fruit cake" either. ;) Good luck with the rest of your semester and have fun!! Cute blog by the way!!
